Can you function as a “Christian counselor” and licensed professional? The answer is YES if you follow the ACA and AMHCA ethical standards. Using an integration approach, you can practice in accordance with professional ethical guidelines and fulfill your calling as a counselor with a license. In this workshop, we will review the ethical guidelines of ACA, AMHCA, NBCC, and NASW. We will walk through Barnett and Johnson's ethical decision-making process model, promoted by the American Counseling Association, and provide examples of ethical strategies for integrating Christian values across different work environments while avoiding “imposing your beliefs” on clients. We will discuss research on Christian integration and books for future study. A Christian-Integrated Trauma Model will also be presented as a helpful tool for ethical integration.
