About the event
Workshop Description
Basic MI is only the starting point — skill comes from repetition. This advanced workshop is built for practice: participants move beyond foundational concepts into applied fluency, revisiting the tasks and core skills of Motivational Interviewing and pushing further into complex reflections. Through demonstration, role-play, and trauma-informed case scenarios, participants rehearse real MI conversations — navigating ambivalence, shame, grief, and discord — in a supportive, low-stakes setting. Participants leave with sharper reflective listening, greater confidence recognizing and repairing rupture, and hands-on practice applying MI tasks to the complexity of trauma-affected clients.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Differentiate levels of reflective listening and construct complex reflections (double-sided, amplified, and metaphorical) in response to client expressions of shame, grief, and ambivalence.
